How many US lbs are in a British "stone"? I keep hearing that someone is 6 (or whatever) stone and have no idea what this translates to!

There are 14lb in a stone. 16 oz in a pound. You may be getting confused with pints - the UK pint is 20 fl oz, whereas the US pint is 16 fl oz. So the UK gallon is bigger than the US gallon. Pounds are, however, the same.

I believe a pound (lb) is the same in English as in American. 14 pounds (lbs) make up a stone and there are 2.2 Kilograms (kgs) to a pound A pound (£)is also used as a monetary value within sterling with an exchange rate which fluctuates with the dollar($)
