  • There are a handfull of reasons. First of all this is due to an in ability to read the game disk. The problem can lie with it disk or the system. If you are finding your having issue with multiple games then you must find out if it is the laser causing the issue or the drive. What I usually do is open the unit and watch how the laser responds when trying to read a known good game. I take the dvd cover off and pull out the spinner. I put the known good game on the tray and put the spinner on the top. I watch how the unit reacts when I try to play the game. When you first power it on the laser should go down to the center and back up a little. Then you'll have to watch and listen to the laser trying to read the disk. A seasoned technician would be looking for is the laser lighting and moving sharply up and down. Is the laser making poping noises? Is the disk spinning? Does it look like the laser is having issues focussing?
  • Try alignng the balance of the laser. Change the white dial in the top middle of the drive to 11 o'clock and clean the laser with a cotton swab and alcohol. If this doesn't help. Power your unit off take out. Make the back side face up in your hand with the cable port facing south to the ground. There are 2 pot resisters. The one on the left is for your dvd and the one on your right is for your cd (some are facing up and down differently so the one most south is your dvd and the opposit is your cd). If your having issues with a dvd game (silver disk) you need to align the left pot resistor. There are 2 posts at the bottom of the resister. Turn the resister very sligtly past that left post until it is like at a little past 7 o'clock. Be careful not to go too far past 7 o'clock or you'll kill the resister. If your having issues with ps1 do the same thing to right resister instead of the left. Never mess with your laser in anyway if your unit is powered....you'll kill your motherboard.
