Question for you. If the word 'African' was eliminated from that sentence would it still bother you? Just a thought, but if it was a white baby would you have asked this question, or are you innocently making a point about it being weird that a woman would breastfeed a child other then her own? Anyway, I think its fine. Why not? I don't see the issue here.

nothing wrong with that. it was common practice about 1400 years ago where babies were sent away with wet nurses (mothers who can breastfeed) for a few months during the dry seasons to keep the babies health in check and to avoid dehydration. These wet nurses would usually come from other areas (where food was more plentiful) to collect babies for feeding and in return the parents would pay them a fee or give them some charity.
