Your dogs are doing what dogs do. They just want to warn you when visitors arrive.

They sound like great dogs. Whatever you do, don't try to discourage it too much. One day you may be glad they made some noise.

They are probably upset that you left the pack. They are letting you know that and what happened during the day.

They are barking at the new comers to the pack when you have company and they are either happy with it or not- the tone of the bark tells you.

Your dogs are probably just slightly over excited about your arrival home, this is often seen when owners make a big deal out of leaving the dogs alone. For example they will make a huge fuss of the dog and then suddenly leave. The dog doesn't understand why you did this, so when you return home they are just happy to see that you are there.

With visitors it is usually also excitement, especially if they are sociable dogs.

Try to leave as the house as calmly as possible. Maybe just saying 'good bye' to your dog before going. And try to avooid having the same routine when leaving. For example ifyou always pick up your keys and then your bag before putting on your coat, your dog will learn this routine means that you are leaving them alone.

When you return home ignore your dog completely. Go about getting yourself settled, taking off your coat, greeting family members all before finally greeting the dog in a CALM manner. Pet the dog and say hello before moving on.

The aim is to try and not make a big fuss over the fact you have left and then returned. Some dogs can become over-emotional rather quickly, leading to excessive barking or other unwanted behaviours.

They are excited to see you. It's a nice thing, so you definitely shouldn't reinforce it with anger.

They missed you and want your attention. Especially if they perceive you as the head of their "pack".

As for the barking at people who come over, they are telling you that a stranger is about. My dog does this and she has a very different bark for when a stranger has arrived as to when we are home. It is kind of nice because then we know someone is here and we can expect the doorbell to ring soon.

Let them bark only until you greet them, then teach them a "no bark" command. Dogs bark. It can be controlled (like teaching a child there are times to yell, and times not to yell). If they are locked in a house, and not sure who is outside, but pretty sure SOMEONE is coming in (although, they probably recognize the distinct sound of your car), they "yell" just like a person whould..."Who's there?! Hello! Are you a criminal?" :D

Do you make a big fuss at them when you leave saying goodbye? When you do this all they really catch onto is the emotion of leaving and they think something is wrong. Just walk calmly out the door as if you were walking into another room. THey are probalby saying, "OH thank God you're alive. We were so worried b/c you made such a big deal when you left. We thought something was wrong". And if you greet them excitedly when you come home, they are acting on that energy. They are mirrors of you. As far as the company, that is normal and I cannot explain that in a little paragraph. Lots more issues to deal with and lots more different approaches. But you can let them know that YOU are boss and YOU will let them know if they need to be concerned.
