There are different types of calcium build up. Calcium is an important mineral responsible for cell function and bone strength that is found normally flowing in the blood. Sometimes, if there is an abundance of calcium your body can deposit the extra in various places. One of the main places is in the walls of arteries around your heart. This is called atherosclerosis and can lead to heart attacks. The calcium deposits harden the walls of your arteries and increase plaque build up which can eventually cut of vital blood flow- leading to heart attacks. Sometimes you can get calcium deposits on your bones and in your joints. This can cause abnormal bumps or nodes of calcium (which is what your bones are mainly made of) to form. In the joints they can be very painful since your joints move and are designed to slide back and forth seamlessly. Any abnormal bumps of calcification can rub the muscles and nerves around the area and cause pain and scarring.

Calcium buildup, as SketchyMess stated could manifest in several ways. Hypercalcaemia is the term that denotes a raised calcium plasma level, (usually taken as > 2.6 mmol/L). It is usually due to excessive parathyroid hormone secretion from the parathyroid gland, which may in turn be due to tumours in the gland or increased groth of the gland following kidney disease, as well as various other causes. There are other causes of raised calcium levels though. Because calcium is very tightly regulated normally within our bodies, and because calcium is important in so many cell functions, the symptoms and signs list is fairly long. This can range from non-specific smptoms such as malaise, tiredness, depression, to more system based problems. Pain from deposits within the ureters that carry urine to the bladder from the kidneys, or elsewhere along the renal system ("kidney stones"), problems with urination (blood/pain/excessive). It should be stated that kidney stones aren't always due to calcium problems though. Kidney colic from stones are often excruciating. It is often described as the male equivalent of giving birth, because although the stone is much smaller, the tubes it passes down are not designed to expand as the female birth canal is, and the stones can literally slice through the lining of the tubes. Bone pain and cysts, abdominal pain, tumours from underlying causes may also develop in longer term cases. Acute hypercalcaemia is a medical emergency, as it can cause mental disturbances and problems with the conduction system of the heart, leading to cardiac problems. You ask what would it be like, it depends on the severity. Mild disturbances may be completely asymptomatic. Severe disturbances can be life-threatening.
