No, it's not. American Bologna and Italian Bologna have a very different taste, in my opinion. The latter is a LOT better, in my opinion.
Nothing like it, for one thing, American bologna has a first name, it OSCAR, it also has a second name, it's MAYER. Italian bologna is just bologna.
Bologna in Bologna is called Mortadella and it's quite different. I was quite stunned when I learned that American "Boloni" meant Bologna that means Mortadella.

I have the feeling that a lot of American food is the gustatory equivalent of McD's. Not that American bologna is food...

I still remember the taste of American Bologna (I was born in the States and lived there till I was 10, and have been living in Italy ever since), and there is NO comparison. But, to be fair, you wouldn't want to buy an Italian brand of peanut butter either! Give me Jiffy's or Skippy's anyday! lol

That's interesting that your family moved over there... was it your parents' work, or were they from there originally? Where do you live?
Also, do they even have PB in Italy!?!?
by Amorphous Blob on February 17th, 2009
@devil: Hi! Thanks! It's been a while. I need to get back here more often!
@Amorphous: no, neither really. Just the desire to live in Europe in the early 70s, though my father was of the son of Italian immigrants. I live in Rome. And, yes! They do have PB here now. They didn't for a long time. I can find a couple of American brands and they have a couple of Italian brands to, but I always go for the American. ;o)
