Why does my dog always go out of its way to drink from a pond when she has her water bowl right next to her? I have heard of other dogs that do this to.

Perhaps she is seeking the nutrients that a natural pond can provide, the whole outside experience seems more natural, or perhaps her water is not changed enough. I've even heard of animals ignoring their water dish because of the pattern on the bottom.

for millions of years they have been doing that.that was their way until recently when man domesticated them and robbed them of their freedom.dogs doesn't have to change their habits suddenly because they are offered water in bowls. people tend to forget that dogs are not humans and treat them like children.dogs by nature were meant to be outdoors.do your dog a favor and let her indulge herself in the great outdoors,you will notice she'll be happier.

Hi. Well yes dogs did used to drink from ponds and yes people have domesticated them for the better we cook food for them rember we once never cooked our food then fire was invented then we ate cooked food and then we proberly lived longer for it same as sice dogs have been domesticated and had food cooked for them they live longer. now some dogs that have not been bred or changed much like huskys could proberly eat ra w meat and drink from ponds but would still live longer if humans looked after them ther dogs like chihuahua yorkies and hairless dogs have no chance hairless dogs could not live outside and would get too hot or could and die

some dogs like to work for their food and drink. maybe if you made him work for his bowl by walking him or something he would use it
