  • I don't think they are I know from experience they are!
  • Selfish people WANT Depressed people NEED
  • Yes I do, Their problems/life are overwhelming. I don't think they do it on purpose, they just have a hard time focusing on anything or anyone else, when they are depressed.
  • i will say yes to a certain level- they tend to overfocus on themselves, i mean on their problems and not on things and people around them.......
  • No but if theres a depressed person on the edge right now reading that title they have already hung themselves or slit them wrists. Ppl get depressed for many differint reasons some may be selfish some may not. So your saying a depressed person has to give give and share everything they have and all their energy and never get anything back...I think that's what starts the depression don't you?
  • They are their own worst enermies more than anything else, but selfish - i think some are and some are not. Depression is multicausal and we can all breakdown when pushed to the limit. I am not supporting drugs here because i know that antidepressants are not a miracle solution to anyone with depression and in some cases they make the sufferer even worse, but likihood of devoloping depression is influced by genetic factors and chemicals in the brain.
  • No, I don't. I think depressed people probably feel like they're at the bottom of a pit and aren't even aware of those around them, and if they are aware of them, they aren't aware of how their illness is affecting them.
  • I tend to get depressed, I don't think I'm selfish. I think I'm the exact opposite. I get depressed when I finally realize that I have been focusing on others life, more then my own example: kids etc. more then myself.. I suddenly remember how messed up my life really is and that makes me feel depressed all over again.
  • 9 times out of 10. The remainder are ill.
  • I think that there are selfish people that are depressed but I don't think that depression causes people to be selfish.
  • I'm sure you think they're selfish as soon as they stop listening to your miniscule problems, and start trying to fight their illness.
  • No, I don't think they are selfish because they are depressed, they could be a selfish person but it wouldn't have anything to do with being depressed.
  • Not a cause and effect, can be, doesn't have to be - no relation. Can be one without the other or both at once or neither.
  • No, of course not. Unless you are depressed, you cannot understand how sh*tty they feel.
  • They can be, but it isn't a choice. Severely depressed people have all they can do to keep themselves together. Not much room for others.
  • If you're talking true clinical depression, that would be like asking if people with heart disease are selfish. It's a medical condition and misconceptions about it are part of the stigma that keeps people from seeking help.
  • no, not at all.
  • If you're talking about depression as in illness, then of course not, they need medical care.
  • I have had the sorrow of knowing a bright young man who committed suicide because his step mother did not want him around. He gave his money to those he thought need it and did good things before he committed the terrible deed. He went home one last time and pleaded with his father to let him come home. Upon refused he went up stairs and shot himself in the head. He was only 17. May that women burn in hell.
  • some are. some not depressed people are selfish. Depressed people encompass a wide range of people with different behavioral reactions to their depression.
  • No, at least no one I know is - I have many friends with depression and I suffer from it myself. Yet everyone is different - there very may well be a selfish person suffering from depression. All I know is I don't know anyone who fits this description
  • I have been depressed over unfortunate life circumstances out of my control. It did not make me any less grateful for the good things in my life, nor any less giving to those around me. I still very much cherish the happiness of others and do what I can to help bring that about. I am not a selfish person. So to those who think the answer is an unequivocal 'yes', I would tell you to think again.
  • I dont think so. They just need help. Maybe some compassion and medical help!
  • We have to differentiate between clinically depressed and pouty/moody/woe is me people. The clinically depressed cannot control that state of being..it requires medical professionals and the proper meds to control it. The pouty/moody/woe is me gang are selfish, self-centered, self-involved and, well, you can always identify them because they are the ones who keep asking the same questions month after month and do nothing to change their situations. After awhile it becomes very difficult for others to care about them. :)
  • not necessarily, but it's likely. Depressed people close up and can't see much of what's going on around them.
  • no.i think depressed peoples are much better than us.
  • I wouldn't say that . Being generous or selfish has nothing to do with your mood ... I wouldn't think. I've been in various stages of depression most of my adult life ; BUT I give generously to various charities and try to help others ... as I am able.
  • some are for attention
