  • the only time i came near to a neck brace was in an ambulance, it was so distressing i refused it, and they made me sign a disclaimer
  • I wore a leg brace as a child. Yes, it did help me as it was taken off after a year and until now I have led a near normal life. I have problems walking now though
  • Occasionally, I'll wear an ankle, back or knee brace (but they're the neoprene kind, not permanent) to help with some injuries. They do help relieve the pain.
  • Yep... I did. I've had casts on my feet, boots, and one built specifically for my right foot, to keep pressure off the bottom, allowing ulcers to heal. AND, I had an "external fixator" (I described it as a "towel rack" on the outside front of my left knee, when I fell and tore the quad tendon from my kneecap. It was screwed (2) into my thigh, and (2) into my shin. It prevented my knee from bending and twisting at all. When it was removed, I had a splint that prevented my knee from bending, but could be adjusted to allow for certain degree of bend, starting at 30. By the time I made it through PT, my left knee will only bend 90 degrees, now. The casts didn't really help that much, the solid boot (like a removable cast) for my right foot helped quite a bit, and the "soft cast" boots helped quite a bit, too.
  • I was having a problem with my knee, so got a brace that I found online, it hurt more than it helped. It was a rather small piece that fit right under the knee cap and was a huge waste of money. I wore it to the mall and had to run into the ladies room to get it off me it hurt so much.
  • Neck brace after the auto accident in 2007 - thank heavens it was only until they could confirm I hadn't injured anything badly
  • Left knee, it had metal rods to keep my leg straight. Left wrist, looked like one that many people wear when they have carpal tunnel. They both helped greatly.
  • Knee braces, ankle brace and I've had the same type walking boot BigDaddy was talking about. All have helped when I need them, walking boot was for the 2 surgery's I have had in left foot knee braces use for torn ligament in both knees ankle brace have had to use as the ankle I broke as a young child is little weak and easy to twist
  • I have a back brace with steel stays that I wore for a few months years ago. I still use it on rare occasion if my back needs some support. It definitely helps, although it is not good to overdo it because then the back muscles become lazy and that is not good. :)
  • I wear a short brace on my right ankle. Yes, it helps.
