Question

Help answer this question below.

I have an 05 corolla, the passenger seat has a seat belt sensor that goes off if I place anything weighing more than 40 lbs on it. Is there a way to disconnect it? I know I can just connect the seat belt but it is flat out annoying.

Nope. One word: Liability (or for the USA, lawsuit)

Every single car manufacturer has been sued by every idiot injured in a crash because they didn't wear their seatbelt. So who's fault is it? Of course, them being blameless, it's the manufacturers fault!

Anyways, to avoid (or minimize) the lawsuits, they put in mandatory seat belt sensors for at least the front seats (not sure about the back seats) to make it more convenient to buckle up than not.

There will be ways to ground the sensor, but that is:
    1) Illegal
    2) Difficult
    3) Dangerous

You can always just leave it strapped in. If you have a passenger they can unbuckle it.

I know how you feel, but welcome to the world built for idiots (you can thank them)

    Good luck,
    Hope this helps
