In several ways - in one of my recent answers, I quoted Magritte's painting of a pipe with the line added: This is not a pipe. funny and quite philosophical at the same time. an artist I like a lot who is quite funny is John Baldessari. For one piece, he had students write the sentence "I will make no more boring art" onto a wall, hundreds of times, like naughty pupils being disciplined.
The Swiss artist Roman Signer is funny. He lets things explode and makes videos of that. Richard Prince's Joke Paintings are funny, if a bit cynical. The sculptures by ERwin Wurm are funny. Among others, he made a soft version of the Guggenheim Museum, melting away like an ice cream cone in the sun.
As you see from these randomly chosen examples, funny art can come in all sorts of media.
One of my favorites is the painter William N. copley, who wrote very funny aphorisms: "I have a very dirty mind. It has brought me neither success not failure." "My fatherland can *$§!* your motherland." Andy Warhol had two dogs. He named them Fame and Fortune. He also said: "I would attend any opening, even the opening of a toilet seat."
Barnett Newman once said "Aesthetics is to the artist as ornithology is to the birds."
I could go on and on with this...
Cartoons are another supreme form of art. A good cartoonist crams a lot into his picture, and very succinctly helps us see the "funny side" of even a grim situation. It's a pity Punch magazine is no more. It had some of the best cartoons ever.
If you want something more earthy, you should look at Art Frahm. A little naughty, but fun. Depends upon how you choose to look at it. I'll take my chance with you with this example.

norman rockwell and his saturday evening post magazine covers. people laughing at themselves.
Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol and Salvidor Dali's work for starters! They all used humour at some point.
Look up the artist, "Banksy." I think most of his stuff is hilarious!

You're reading Can you give me one example how humor is used in art?
Comments
You are priceless! I have laughed for a good 15 minutes with your answer. I looked at Duchamp's "Experience" painting and found it funny, yet a bit "naughty", but maybe in was just in my mind. Humor certainly has a place in art! Thanks, I appreciate you!

Oops, it's an old article so you probably already know about it. I just noticed it said New York Times and gave today's date. Sorry.
