Are Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio.NET different. I want to learn Visual Studio 2005, the book I have seen teaches Visual Studio.NET. Can I use it or it is the wrong book for Visual Studio 2005?

I thought I saw that VS 2005 was to be referred to as VS2005, not VS.Net, and similarly for ASP 2.0 instead of ASP.Net. Although they both use the .Net Framework.

Anything VS may now be called .Net, but VS.Net came out in 2001 or 2002, while 2005 came out in 2005. Look at the copyright of the book. If a book doesn't proudly mention "2005", it's probably the older version.

Anything Visual Studio is now '.Net'. So it would be the correct book.

.Net refers to the new framework that Microsoft has come up with that is a more unified framework. Programs written in Visual Basic, C# or any other supported program can now all be used together nearly seamlessly. That is what .Net refers to.

However, learning Visual Studio is not going to be helpful without learning to program as well. If there is no programming in the book you are looking at purchasing, you may also want to take a look at a good C# or Visual Basic.Net book as well so that you can take full advantage of Visual Studio 2005.Net.
