    yes, apply neutral(non-color)so thy're protected

    water proofing would be a good idea...where the stitching meets the sole...snow seal is one, there are sprays that do pretty good. dow corning makes a liquid that penetrates. it works great, but it stains the leather and it smells toxic for weeks.

    Certainly. Once you apply your first coat of polish, it will be easier to polish them the next time.
