I find the idea of child beauty pagents disgusting. what are your thoughts on them?

I agree, they are completely disgusting and a magnet for pedophiles. That new show on A&E is taking things WAY too far.

The worse is the way children are made to dance and sing on competitive TV shows and the judges making rude comments about the performances of those of the little kids who failed to put up their best. Instead of a few encouraging words they pass remarks that could break the child's heart. I have seen children really crying at the remarks of the judges - so called experts - on these shows. Child beauty pagents and these TV shows deserve to be banned.

I remember when I was a little girl I wanted SO BADLY to compete in a beauty pageant. I never got the chance, but my friends and I would play Miss America from time to time. It was the only really girly thing I did. I didn't see any of the negative aspects that are so widely spoken of now - it would have just been an opportunity to play dress up and sing and dance and wear a crown. The idea of winning was SO awesome. And to be honest, the idea of winning wouldn't have been nearly as cool if there wasn't a big chance of losing. That was okay. That said, I wouldn't subject my child to a pageant - I AM older now, and I DO see the underlying "evils". Just wanted to show it through the eyes of a six year old girl.

It's not like beauty pagents are sporting events, their more vain social gatherings of insecure people seeking recognition for themselves through their children. If your mentally insecure, or a child molester I'm sure their great fun, but watching an 8 year old caked in make up and dressed like a whore, is not my idea of a good time. The kids don't realize what's going on, because their responding to the mental abuse of what their parents, friends and the ol' fashion mags are telling them. Yep, it's disgusting.

Parents should be ashamed of exploiting their daughters. really what is it, you dress up your little girls like ladies with hair, makeup clothing having them walk around like adult models for what? Parents kicks of having the best made up baby! Sorry but I think those parents need help.

I saw the show on A&E while on the airplane the other day. It's one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. Not only are those girls full of themselves, but they're also encouraged to dislike the other girls in the pageant. When asked "What do you think about the other girls' performances?" one 10 year old girl answered "Um, I don't CARE about them." I think it's ridiculous and disturbing to the highest degree.

I find it disgusting as well. Those mothers should quit trying to overcome their own shortcomings by displaying their daughters like prostitutes.

Let's let children be children, shall we? And not sexualize them any earlier than they naturally ripen into it? Heck, I already think that most Miss Americas, et cetera, don't deserve it--there should be a Miss Non-Cosmeticized America just to see what they really look like. The idea of a six year old in makeup, except when she's playing with other six year olds, is sick. It's like painting a green apple read, or a green banana yellow. They'll be adults for 70 years. Let them have their innocence for the first 15.

They are so discusting, they should be banned! These mother's are teaching these girl's that they need makeup and fake hair and teeth, and they need to use sex to get what they want. It is appalling to the utter word MOTHER! I WOULD NEVER HAVE DOLLED UP MY DAUGHTER AND PRANCED HERE AROUND WITH FAKE TEETH, AND MAKEUP AND TANNED HER BECAUSE HER OWN SKIN COLOR WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH! Yeah, I dont think its right. children are ment to have fun, play, live their lives before they get older, but in a beauty pagent they're working, and it would bring out a competitive attitude and thats not always good. and children are sappossed to look cute, and look sweet and kind and YOUNG. no makeup,, but on beauty pagent girls they load them with make-up and its not natural, they make them look way older then they really are and its not right. I hope this makes sence

The pageants are not about the children, its all about their mother and what she missed out in life as a child.

I agree - it's disgusting. Like others have said - it promotes superficial beauty and we shouldn't teach the kids that the beauty is everything.
