I would not attempt to speak for others but only for me. When I was in college, the last two years of it, I was overwhelmed with a lot of school work that needed to be done. As a result, I went through some sleeping deprivation. Interesting enough, some of the symtomps that I experienced were the slowing down of my ability to process informations, slow time reaction to my surroundings, lack of coordination and mild fatigue.

Death - your own would not be good and if you took others with you say in a car accident that would be worse. Twelve in a school bus that you just ran into at 85 mph would be worse than the one that you hit as she was walking on the sidewalk.

In lab experiments when rats have been denied the opportunity to sleep they have died however humans would pass out and go into a deep sleep long before it got to this stage and no human has died like this, however long term sleep deprivation can kill. This is where humans get very little sleep over a long time span of many months/years. The greatest danger with lack of sleep is probably a fatal accident because concentration and cognative processes are affected. Many experience anxiety to a greater level or exhibit pychotic symtoms when they have been awake too long and the brain wants to shut down and sleep. Trying to mask this with caffiene sometimes makes it worse as the body trying to sleep is being fought by the mind wanted to keep awake. And caffiene when your sleep deprived can cause more palpitations.
