I have been dying my hair with at home color for a few years. The color is kinda getting old. I am a medium auburn. How can I get to a nice medium brown with at home hair color? Do I need to bleach it?

use a red base, red bases work very well when trying to change the colour hair, then use a medium brown to achieve the color you want =]

I'd rather you see a professional, but the answer is simple: If your auburn hair is lighter than medium brown, then you can go ahead and put a medium ASH brown on your hair, and you should be fine. If your hair is a darker auburn in relation to a medium brown, then yes, you would have to prelighten your hair with a bleach or color remover. Color does not lift color, and if you are going darker, to get rid of the red in the auburn you must use ash. See your professional

Dont bleach your have darling as when you put any browns on it ,eventually it will fade into a green, go see a professional, you need something with a warm tone in it, such as red.

Darker tint can go over lighter tint no problem without bleaching.. In fact, if you were to bleach your hair before adding a darker shade, there would be more of a chance of the colour sliding off the hair. You should maybe try a colour that's slightly darker than medium because after a few washes your hair will get lighter. Now for the choice of colour heehee, although most home colouring kits contain metallic salts, which cause the hair to break, i have came across one that seems to work very well.. Shwarzkopf (i think that's how you spell it) Vital Colours :)

EVERY brown hair color has a red base to it, from the boses on the shelves to the stuffwe use in our salons. If you want to go to a medium brown, no you do NOT bleach it, are u kidding? OMG please dont do that. It;ll most likely come out green if you slap some brown color on top without knowing what ur doing. Coloring your hair is pure kindergarden.....use a color wheel. You are a medium auburn, and u wanna go to a medium brown, u need to cancel out the red tones, even though the brown u slap on already has them......find a brown with a blue green base to it, like an ash color. Try and ash medium brown, personally I'd go dark brown, but stick with Loreal, REDKIN owns it and the store kits dont contain the metalics that are harsh on your hair.

no dont bleach it! you dont need it!

get the colout you want but it must be the same shade of brown (not lighter) and apply it to the mid lenghts of the hair and after 10 mins put it on the roots.

though you will still be able to see the auburn though it after a while, as it is impossible to get rid of red bases, as they stain.

No you do not need to bleach your hair .
Try a medium brown and you will probably get a red brown the first time but Red is a good colour as a brown base ,as a large amount of people with brown hair tend to have some red lights

I wouldnt think bleaching is necessary, can't you just go darker brown right over the Auburn?
