Oh it isn't a MYTH , my friend .... I know a guy who was asleep and woke up choking ; only to find that a Palmato Bug (LARGE Roach) had called into his mouth as he was gaging it all out .... and throwing up.

Bugs aren't that dumb. They do have some sense of self preservation. They might be attracted to your mouth because it's warm, but I think the only time they would get into your mouth is when you suddenly inhale with more force than usual. But still, I think it's probably unlikely. How many times have you even woken up to a bug on your pillow? After all my years I can't think of one instance. Not even camping.

not a myth...studies indicate the average person eats 10-12 bugs a year in their sleep...but this is actually a very small number considering how many bugs, or bug parts one eats in a year that is in food you purchase and eat....all in all not a big deal though...bugs are full of protien and they really don't taste bad. I've had some grasshoppers, ants and beetles stirfried, chocolate covered and prepared various ways and they were pretty good really.
