I personally would never send my child away for any reason other than that he needed some kind of care that I was unable to provide. I would not have done well being sent away when I was young. I do not understand Boarding Schools. They come with the territory of wealth I suppose..something about which I know exactly nothing. :)

I believe they can be very damaging for the social skills of teenagers. They only interact with a small group of people for 2 long time and do not have many friends elsewhere. Thats what i have witnessed anyway.

I always really wanted to go to boarding school, I think I read too may Enid Blyton books as a child

Oh, in many cases they are good. The education tends to be better and of course the experience is not that common. In many cases, it's not so good. Case to case.
