  • I doubt he could get off the birth certificate, but he can disown the child, which would have the same effect. When my second husband adopted my son, they issued a new birth certificate showing him as father, so there is a way to change them. Contact the registrar of your state or county and ask them.
  • Why would he want to do that? Does he no longer love the child? What difference would it make? Once you take on being responsible for a child you have no right to cede that responsibility. How is the child at fault here? What did he/she do to this guy that he would undo something that was a very loving thing to do. I think that is deplorable, frankly. You wanna save a few bucks over a few years so you disown your kid? Wow. That is heavy, man..very heavy. :(
  • First of all, if you are the husband of the mother, you don't get a choice in the matter. YOU are the legal father until proven otherwise in a court of law, no matter WHAT the circumstances. Get an attorney and get it resolved.
  • A paternity test should have him legally removed from the child's birth certificate.
  • Like tomeygirl said a paternity test should determine that but if he did that he was an idiot to begin with (no offence, things are what they are).
