  • Aspartame is just another artificial sweetener, C14H18N2O5, formed from aspartic acid. In small does it does no harm. Diabetics like me use one aspartame tablet for every cup of coffee we drink. That is about 6 pills a day. This many tablets a day has been approved by my doctor. Even this small dose puts some extra pressure on the liver . This we must compensate by taking liver tonics. However as diabetics too require coffee on a regular basis, the minor liver damage that aspartame can cause with the small doses we consume, the disadvantage can be considered as of negligible consequence. Higher doses of aspartame in sweetening of food could damage the liver. Particularly sweets, chocolates and chewing gums containing aspartame as the sweetening agent could cause greater damage than good to the human systems.
  • I believe it does more harm than good.I stopped using aspartame about a month ago after I read about the problems people had with it.
  • dont have any, try fructose or agave syrup
  • There are no benefits as it's not good for you and has too many problems, even though the FDA chooses to side with the giant Monsanto. But the studies all show that it is harmful. The safety studies they did to get aspartame approved showed that rats got brain tumors. The rats on aspartame got 47 times more tumors than the control rats but the FDA chose to ignore it from pressure form the makers. When aspartame breaks down in the body it forms into methyl alcohol which is a toxin, which even in low doses is harmful to cells, especially DNA. It can convert to formaldehyde and formic acid. No one in their right mind would drink formaldehyde. Diabetics who drink large amounts of aspartame are more likely to go blind. One group of people that know about this danger is pilots. a number of pilots have lost their licenses due to aspartame. It was found to cause impaired vision, convulsions, or confusion. One pilot in the Air Force had a grand mal seizure that was reported to Congress. In 1988 the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network set up a private hotline to receive inquiries from pilots who were in jeopardy of losing their licenses because of these seizures. They have gotten nearly 1,000 calls. One man said that after two cups of Nutrasweetened hot cocoa he had blurred vision so severe he couldn't read his instrument panel. When aspartame is heated above 86°F it quickly turns to wood alcohol or methanol. The body is warmer than that. According to the ACSN they know that can cause blurred vision, retinal damage and blindness.
