• This answer is a gratuitous assertion by a person with an obvious axe to grind against the Church. He provides no proof of his assertion. He has questioned mine and my brother's integrity on numerous occasions. So, science_geek why should we believe anything you write? Where is your proof that you really no what your writing about?

• I think that people can see who the liar is here. I provided a link to an article from an official Church publication that directly contradicts what you are claiming. All you have is your unsubstantiated word. You make these claims of the horrible wrong that the Church has done to you, yet you have not provided a single solid piece of evidence to back of these claims beyond your paranoid ranting.

• As further evidence of who is telling the truth here, let me add another link (http://tinyurl.com/2pvxvn). This takes you to one of the lesson from a lesson manual that we use to teach the teenage boys in our Church. Note the quotes from Church leaders in which they state that sex is not only for reproduction, but is also an expression of love between husband and wife. Once again, this is from a source that is freely available to anyone. All you have to do is go to the Church's website. Once again, all science-geek has is his unsubstantiated rants.

• Oh and science_geek accuses Joseph Smith of being a CONVICTED confidence man. If this is so, then where are the court records that show that he was convicted of this crime? They don't exist because Joseph Smith was never convicted of any such thing. Despite the numerous accusations against him, all of the false witnesses that perjured themselves, and all of the kangaroo courts before which he stood, Joseph Smith was only convicted of one "crime". That one crime was that of casting out a devil. Now, why that was considered to be a crime, I don't know, but that is the only conviction that his enemies were able to get in a court of law.

• Riff-Raff, not that science_geek is known for making these gratuitous assertions without offering any backup for his accusations. Note that I challenged him to cite his sources for these accusation. I did that several weeks ago. He has not done so. Note also that I provided a couple of links that directly contradict what he has asserted and the best that he has been able to do is accuse me of lying and just added more unsubstantiated accusations. He is not a trustworthy source of information about us.

• LDS couples have been counseled that sex is not only for procreation but that it is healthy, both emotionally and spiritually, for their relationship.

• That is absolutely not true. I just finished reading a bunch of quotes from General Authorities and others (referenced to check accuracy) in which they specifically stated oral sex was unnatural and should not be performed.

• This letter has been posted before. However, I have never seen a reliable reference for it. I just did a search of the Church's web site and could find absolutely no references to oral sex. So, can you provide a reference that shows that this is an actual letter that was sent out by the Church or that this is indeed still Church policy?

• Note the heart of the letter: if a certain practice bothers the conscience of the husband or wife enough to ask the bishop about it, that practice should probably be discontinued.

• I appreciate Glenn Blaylock's comments in regard to the defense of intimacy between LDS married couples.
  
  This letter by the first presidency was submitted, but you must read it closely and understand the background of this letter.
  Notice that this letter was "Letter to all Priesthood Leaders."
  Having personally served as the clerk in a Bishopric, the Bishops and Stake Presidents of the church are sent letters from the President of the church all the time. some are meant to be read to the congregation and some are not. This letter was never meant to be read to the congregation, nor was it, nor was it established as the official doctrine of the church.
  
  Notice the phrase "The First Presidency has interpreted." The President and his counselors were asked a question and are entitled to their opinion. Anyone who studied President Kimball's writings will read for themselves that Kimball admits to giving his opinion all the time and that it's not necessarily from God.
  
  The official instruction can be found in the Bishop's handbook of instruction which states that the church cannot tell a husband or wife what they can or cannot do sexually in the bonds of marriage.
  
  If you know anything about our church, you'll know that we do not have paid clergy. Your local bishop could be a plumber for a living - with NO training in family issues or counseling. The impression I get from this letter was that in the 80s a lot of members were asking the question about oral sex to their bishop in their Temple Recommend interviews. A question about keeping the law of Chastity is asked. The Bishops didn't know what to answer to the members and took it up with the first presidency. This letter was their reply, but the letter or the statement was never repeated nor was it given as an addendum to the Temple interview questions, nor have I ever heard it asked in a Temple interview question.
  
  The last statement " If a person is engaged in a practice which troubles him enough to ask about it, he should discontinue it." is more consistent with the teachings of the church and gospel. We're instructed to pray about it and follow the spirit. If we want to engage in a sexual act and we're not sure about it, we are to investigate, discuss and pray about it as a couple, and follow what the spirit directs.
  
  One consistency you will find about the LDS church, if it is a serious problem and intended to be doctrine from God, you will hear about it over and over and over and over again.
  
  This is just not the case in this circumstance. To us Mormons, what happens between a husband and wife is sacred. If Adam and Eve wanted to have anal sex while hanging from their mirror ball and playing funk music, as far as we're concerned, it's none of our ding dang business. As it says in Genesis, the lord married them and left them ALONE in the garden.
