The only time you can get free cuts, etc., is if a manufacturer of those products comes to town and looks for models.....They generally place an ad in the paper, but nowadays could even be online...this type of thing can be hard to track down, but if you can, you will get the best cut/color as they are done by professionals...only problem is, when you go back to your regular salon, can they duplicate the color/cut?
As someone else on here said, just spend the money...let's face it, a good appearance is important today!!!!
and besides, there are tons of other things to be 'thrifty' about; but I wouldn't put haircuts/color in that category!!!!
If you go to a cosmetololgy school, the price will be lower, but you have no reason to be nervous, as the students are closely supervised!! I was one of those students, so I know!!!!!!
NYC is not free, Spend the money and it will look like you want, Go cheap and it will look like your childhood best friend who have except for the few exceptions of wrapping a gift has never had to use scissors for a positive thing in their life cut your hair in the bathroom while sharing a bottle of vino. Been there, Done that, Bought the T-Shirt...
For free? Ha. Good luck on finding someone even salon schools or cosmetology schools that will do your hair for free. Maybe cheap but not free.

You're reading Where's a great place in NYC that I can get my hair colored and cut for free? I keep hearing about apprentices and salon schools, but they make me nervous. Anyone tried a good one?
