There are any number explanations of how the "occult arts" work, depending on what exactly you're referring to. I have a theoretical understanding of how various practices work. Full understanding? No. Again, depending on what exactly you're referring to, theories abound. . .from superstitious speculation to attempts to relate various occult practices to psychology and physics. In such studies just accepting that something works, without at least an attempt to understand why or how you do something, can lead to unpleasant consequences.

If the practice of " spiritism " [ dark arts / magic ] was harmless, then why would the Bible warn us about it... It is because it supports Satan's system...NOT Jehovahs' (Galatians 5:19-21) Now the works of the flesh are plainly seen, and they are sexual immorality, uncleanness, brazen conduct, 20 idolatry, spiritism, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, dissensions, divisions, sects, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these. I am forewarning you about these things, the same way I already warned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God
