I really don't know. They are intricate, and often beautiful to look at, but getting close to one makes me feel this odd sense of primordial fear. I know logically they will not harm me, but my body tenses up whenever there is one near me. I have a great respect for them since they can bite and be poisonous, so I keep my distance. I have been known to get my camera though, if I see one that is especially eye catching.

im not sure where that irrationalaity comes from, Im not as bad as I used to be, im learning to live and let live for all things.( well most) but I thnk something to do with their speed, their fangs, their bite................

They scare me partly because I never know whether any given spider has a posionous bite or not. Except I can identify the black widow spider.
I hate all those legs crawling around. I get scared one will crawl into my bed at night and bite me!

Nothing. I actually like them because they eat mesquitoes, knats and fly's, and bring good luck. The former bugs I dislike because their parasitic nasties.

The little suckers bite...at night when I'm sleeping. A NASTY bite, too, that hangs around awhile. Wake up with a strange, itchy, tiny bite on your leg...that was a spider with an attitude!
So, OK, it's my fault...This is Florida! I gotta get those dustbunnies taken care of from under the bed! :-)

their speed, and when they crawl on you w/out knowing they are there at first! Ahhhh!
SCARY! I guess when they sneak up on you and
you aren't at all prepared.
I don't kill them. They are God's living creatures and who am I to take away their beautiful life?

Their bite can be poisonous, or very nasty for you.
I have been bitten several times, although fortunately, the worst only made me sick for a couple days. (headache, nausea, very tired)
There is a local spider, the brown recluse, who's bite can result your flesh rotting off your body. Usually their bite results in a really nasty irritation but in extreme cases people have lost limbs, or nearly their life if the bite was in a bad location.
I was talking with someone the other day that ran across a wolf spider that had too much to eat. It was about the size of his hand. These spiders eat other spiders, as do daddy long leg spiders.

Everything...I mean really everything including the name...just saying it aloud gives me the creeps. I blame my dad big strapping man terrified of bugs so he passed it onto me. I tried really hard not to do that to my children and they both love animals and insects so they carefully remove them for me and put them outside.
