    sort of what he said but its actualy called and idle air control and it has nothing throttle plate on fuel injection motors. its just a plunger that opens and closes letting a certian amount of air into the engine.

    Imagine Ur front fences gate being held open by a rock a little way. Replace the "Rock" with a "Big Screw" that pushes against the gate keepin it open. If U screw it in more the gate opens more. In Ur car the "Gate" is called a "Throttle Plate" & the "Screw" is an "Idle Speed Screw" that does just that, hold partially open the "Throttle Plate" to the desired "Engine Speed". This is of course a very simplistic explanation & the different mfgrs. do it different ways, some with electric solenoids, but the result is the same. John
