I went to the doctor and he cut it out. He fixed it so it wold never grow there again. Why suffer and try dumb fixes? Get it done right...it's really worth it.

I have had an ingrowing toenail since I was 7 and a half years old I am now 18..you do the math. My mum had one and had to have her entire nail and nail bed out, the surgeon permanently broke her toe so now it wont move...apparently it can be inherited :(. I have been to the doctors with mine so many times, they wont give be antibiotics for the infections any more because I have had so many of them in the past they are scared my body will become immune to them, I have also had five operations where they take an amount of nail and nail bed out and each time within a year the problem returned. My last operation however was the worse of them all, I couldn't walk after it. I can no longer feel the pain in it apart from when someone stands on it etc. Please if anyone has any suggestions about how to solve it by yourself as I think I have had quite enough years of it for all of us. I have tried the 'v' in the nail and soaking it in salt water (which does get rid of all the gunk and make it more supple) etc but none have solved it for a period of time.

You can buy an advanced manicure kit and resolve it yourself...but that wouldn't be good for your wallet...or your toe.

whenever i get them, i cut a v shaped notch in my toe nail in the middle. for some reason while the nail grows it will try to close this shape and it will pull the nail out on its own. try it. if this doesnt work then i suggest going to the doctor. its not as bad as it sounds.

Hey im Josh, Im 13 and My nail is killing me, its digging in and im starting to get puss pockets around the area, i tried the cotton ball trick but my nail is too short. Im ready to ask my parents about going to the pedietrist but dont know if insuracne will cover it or how much it is. My toe bleeds when i put a sock on not to mention the agonising pain that goes on during. Currently im sitting her just have try to gut the dang thing out with a toenail clipper and now have a towel wrapped around my foot to stop the bleeding. Ive only had it for about three weeks, but already its awful. Im getting desperate haha any suggestions on what i should do. I have not tried the V shape cut and i read on another Fourm that this is acctually increases the chance of getting one and also is inaffective. Please Help!

I have had ingrowing toenails for 25 years and have had advice from a professional pedometrist, you can either cut down the side of the nail every 3 months or so, because they will always grow inwards as the gap at the side of the nail has been created and will now always be there, so either cut them out or see the doctor and he will remove the root which will prevent the nail growing altogether.

The next time the nail begins to dig in, get a pair of needle nose pliers and bend the edge of the nail away from the skin being careful not to tear or break that section off. What will begin to happen is that the nail will eventually push the skin down as it grows over top of the skin rather than digging into it. During this process keep moisturizing the area with vaseline or some other long term moisturizer that will keep the edge of the nail from making permanent contact. After that dont cut the nail past the point where the problem took place.

I had an ingrown toe nail 11/2008 and it hurt so bad, it was red, swollen and infected. I tried all kinds of things to get rid of it... vick's, lemon, etc... I thought about calling the doctors but I just didn’t have the extra money right know to spend. So my Dad told me to try Absorebine Veterinary Liniment... (cost about $8.00) that worked for him. (They use it for horse’s hoofs) In about 3 days the swollen was going down and the pain was getting less and less. I could put my socks and put on shoes with less pain than before. I kept putting the liniment with a cotton ball on couple times a day and soaking my foot in hot salt water at night, I also cut a v in my toenail. After a few days, I noticed itto be less painful . It felt like my ingrown was coming out so I got tweezers and pulled it out and felt instant relief. A week later it is gone. I can't believe how fast this liniment worked. Try this is really works.

i am Amy i am 13 and i have had the same in grown toenail for nearly 2 years my mum wants me to be taken to the doctors but i insist her not to she is giving me 1 more chance and if it doesn't get better she is taking me i am very scared..but i can usure you mine is worse..i have 4 on both my big toes all together there is 2 (one on each side) its very sore and it hurts when i put my sock and shoes on..
this is what i am doing lately and you need to do it because mine are getting better
CUT A V SHAPE INTO YOUR NAIL
SOAK IT IN SALT WATER TILL THE WATER GOES COLD 2 TIMES A DAY
FOR ONE OF THE SOAKINGS PUT A LIQUID CALLED COLLOIDAL SILVER AFTER
AND FOR THE SECOND ONE USE BEDERDINE
RAP IT AT NIGHT ALLOWING IT TO AIR OUT DURING THE DAY AND IN THE MORNING IT SHOULD BE ALL WRINKLED THEN JUST SOAK IT AGAIN :)
    i hope it works out
    from Amy :)
