How far away from a cut onion do you have to be before your eyes start watering?

    I can just about touch my eyes with a frsh cut onion without them watering.

    I don't breath through my nose when cutting onions so they don't water, but I would say their effective range is in the 2'- 3' area maybe? (for me anyways)

    depends entirely on the onion. I try to buy vadalia onions whenever possible. They are so sweet, that they don't make my eyes water. Sometimes we'll buy some onions that are really hot, and then no matter what they'll get to me.
