verb etre(to be). Yes, I suppose you could use the word
"gaie", which in English means "cheerful"; I believe
you already know that.

aand another question, would it make sense to say "vous voulez juste que j'ale ete gaie" ? because i'm writing a poem and gaie rhymes with égaies..

My pleasure. Yes, "ale" is an auxiliary verb which it does provide
(don't ask me why) help to the verb "etre"(to be). And also yes to
the last question. I suppose you could use the word "gaie", which
is an adjetive meaning "cheerful".
