Question

Help answer this question below.

Car battery died, had it jump started by some guy's monstrous beastly muscle car, everything works now except my stereo just won't turn on. Do you think it's a fuse or do I really have such poor luck something always has to be broken?

Sounds like a fuse if everything else is working!

The jumping is NOT likely to have damaged your radio. Believe it or not, it's actually a pretty rugged piece of electronics gear. Especially if it was off at the time. (You should turn everything electrical off anyway when you jump your car, for future reference.)
    .
Definately start with checking the fuse for the radio, though, in order to eliminate the simple. Replacing a blown fuse for a quarter is a happy way to fix a problem!
    .
If this wasn't the problem, check your owners manual for the car (or the stereo, if it's an after market stereo). It may be that your radio comes with a theft prevention device built in which locks the radio up when power is removed from it (like it would be if someone removed the radio or your battery goes dead). If so, you will need to enter a digital code into the radio to get it to function again.

The surge when bump starting probaly blew the fuse ,quite often the heater blower is on the same fuse so check that this is working that will give you an indictaion if its the main fuse gone .If you dont find a fuse gone in the fuse box remove the radio there is a small fuse in the back hope this helps

    Phil wonders where everyone is???

Check the Fuse on the Radio- For the future Remember, Jump starts are with Givers Engine OFF so you don't get a power surge.

night times with a partner are a time for Power Surges!

There's usualy an in-line fuse behind the radio, but note when you do get the radio back on you may have to put the security code back in to restart it :o)

If your stereo has a removable faceplate try to push the reset button for about 10 seconds then try again

If this is a newer car, you may have a disable function programmed into the factory head unit. it keeps the radio from being used if its removed/stolen. Check with the dealer (have your 17 digit VIN code handy) to get the unlock code
