They may get cheaper labor somewhere else, but their reputation won't benefit from it; especially with all the workers in Motor City and the US out of work.
I forgot to add, if they do I will never buy another freakin' Chevy as long as I live!
With the taxes and government regulations that are strangling business in the US, don't look for much to come here. Most will go to Mexico or South America.
I hear this as moving jobs to "other countries" not the USA. Builing plants in Mexico or South America isn't something our tax money should pay for.

You're reading With a 47% decline in its monthly sales (over Jan 2008) GM is reportly considering pulling manufacturing out of Canada and moving those jobs to the US and "other countries"? Do you think this possible and, if so, wise?
Comments
In Canada the government once talked about buying Chrysler and putting all of our automotive jobs in that basket. It would seem simpler that if the government here and the US are going to put all of these bucks into loosing propositions, that someone in the public at least has a seat at the board room table. I do not think GM can really do anything to get itself out of this hole except to sell to the Japanese or Chinese

I suspect until we in the West reconcile the difference between owning quality and quantity and accept tha higher wages do not equate with importance and value, we will continue to fall down this well. In places that we import from, just having a dry place to live and enough to eat is considered good fortune.
