I would prefer to keep it open for everyone 24/7 to view the content and let access be gained by giving me there mail address so I could send out newsletter to interested people who want to view such content. If they already signed up then I would like the script to detect that and let them gain access.

Those sounds good, that way I could add the email addresses to the mailing list after the fact and still have my content secured. Do you know of any helpful sites where I could locate a script that would be of some assistance?
