First of all, make sure you eat healthy, well-balanced meals and drink plenty of water. Also make sure you get plenty of sleep and try not to stress. :)

You can use hot oil treatment, whether you buy them from a store or you can use cooking oil (olive, canola, etc.) put it in the microwave for a bit and put it on the ends.

You can also get mayonnaise and put it on the ends.

These will all help your damaged hair look healthier and shinier, and the firs paragraph will help it grow. :)

I got most of these from my mother who's a cosmetologist, and they work... just try em.

    Good luck!

Put the hair straigheners in bin.
Resist the urge to have the hair dryer on 'hot enough to start a fire setting".
Ban the hairdryer unless you have to leave the house - let it dry naturally even if it does look like shit.
No more home colourants or bleach for a while (or anything at all).
    Get it trimmed.
Improve your diet - you are what you eat.

While waiting for results (this takes a while), go out and treat yourself to a bottle of spray glosser or shiny stuff (John Frieda makes the best one in the UK) and fake it. It may not be a home made remedy but it does have the power to turn your hair from straw like to 'shiny enough to be in a commerical'.

I have long blonde highlighted hair that was really dry. I left a honey and olive oil mix on for 20 minutes and my hair is SO soft and shiny now - a totally different head of hair now. I can't believe how much better my hair looks. I used 1/2 c honey and 1/4 c olive oil mixed. Put on a plastic cap or wrap, leave on for 20 minutes, rinse, shampoo and so on. Use less for shorter hair.

To a cup of coconut milk add two tablespoons of gram flour. Apply on the scalp and massage gently. Rinse the hair after five minutes. Use this method once a week. This is very good and effective home remedy for dry hair.
Make a conditioner by mixing one tablespoon of Castor oil, one tablespoon of glycerin, a teaspoon of cider vinegar, to a tablespoon of mild herbal shampoo. Apply it on scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse the hair.

Mayonaise - keep it in for an hour, and wash with pure shampoo (no water at first), followed by a parial vinegar rinse. I understand eggs are also good for dry hair.

    Olive oil.
Just use it as a hot oil treatment. Put 1/2 cup of olive oil in a bottle, then put it in a bowl of boiled water, until hot its enough to be placed on your scalp without burning it. Massage it onto the entire length of your hair and scalp. Put a shower cap on and then put a hot water soaked towel, wrung out of course, over the shower cap. Leave it on for 15-30 minutes and then shampoo like you usually would.

Stop buggering around with it. Shampoo is the worst thing you can threaten your hair with- it is nothing more than a mild detergent (I used to manufacture the evil stuff, so I know). All you need to do is rinse your hair thoroughly with lots of water every day, and for best results, use one of those circular plastic brushes (Nu-Brush is one brand ) to massage your scalp while you shower.
I have been doing this since I was 30 or so, and although early baldness runs in both sides of my family I still have a respectable head of hair at 66.

Not to be snide, but have you tried washing it less frequently, or perhaps using only water to rinse it out between shampoos?

Mayonnaise, eggs, and beer believe it or not are the best inexpensive home remedy for your hair. It helps restore its natural shine and heals dry/damaged hair. Mix them all together. Amount depends on how long, short, thin, and thick your hair is. Leave this mixture on for an hour and then wash it out. How many times a month you decide to do this is up to you. I feel that 2-3 times a month is good enough for me. Hope this helps most of you. :)
