Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Now that it is cold, when I start the car it makes this horrible squealing sound, almost sounds like there's a little animal inside. What is this? It usualy only happens when it is really cold.

Sounds like the fan belt slipping. It's easy to fix and not too expensive.
Hyundai's are the best by the way. I've had three and I love them.

Could be the (frozen) belts. Could be the cold, shrunken metal rubbing without the benefit of the thick, nearly-frozen oil. Could be both of them.

If it's below 0F, all cars will complain a little on startup. Don't worry too much unless the sound persists once the engine is warmer.
