My 17 yr old cat doesn't run around like she used to. She has arthritis in her hip, and can't jump on the couch like she used to either. I know some older people who can still get around like they did when they were younger, and some who have aches and pains.

I have cats and I have seen a difference in their reactions and movements with age. I think age, slows everyone down including animals.

If this is your cat, then its a great testament to how you've taken care of your cat. If not, in general, its a supposition. All I can say is I've had cats with longevity & some very active & some not. Same with humans. If you take care of yourself and never stop the activities you did while younger, you stay pretty fit. You begin to take it easy, eat more than exercise, eat things that are bad for you, well...you know whats gonna happen. Think about it tho, most of us that really take care of our animals always buy the "right" foods for them. They don't really have a choice, unless they go out & catch a mouse or something. Generally cats are fed a regime of nutritous food (by good pet owners). Basically we treat our pets better than we treat ourselves, and it shows.

Animals generally lead a much more active life than humans, and eat a much better diet (they don't have much choice!) There are some pretty spritely elderlies out there who have worked on it too.
