TheKnife V2.1 - Grandiose and Obnoxious

I found this paragraph while searching for this information - it comes from a summary of the 1952 season.

July 15 - Detroit Tigers first baseman Walt Dropo collects seven consecutive hits over the course of doubleheader against the Washington Senators. Combined with the five consecutive hits he recored on July 14, Dropo establishes the American League and Major League record for consecutive hits in consecutive plate appearances with ten base hits.

So he set the record at 10, although my math tells me that 5 consecutive hits followed by 7 more makes 12, not 10... so I am not 100% sure on this information. But Chick Hafey definitely hit in 10 consecutive at bats back in 1929. There is also the possibility that somebody has had more since then, which I have yet to check out.

edit - the record is definitely 12, I think the paragraph I quoted may have had a typo in it. I found reference to Bernie Williams getting an 11th consecutive hit against Seattle on Aug 17th 2002, which is said to have "fallen one short of the MLB record", so the record is definitely 12 and I think Walt Dropo holds it.

2nd edit - Walt Dropo holds the record at 12, jointly with Pinky Higgins of the Redsox who also had a 12 hit streak in 1938. FINAL ANSWER! NO MORE EDITS! I guess I am "showing my working" at least, that always got extra marks in school!

Just a clarification...according to Baseball Almanac, Dropo sits alone atop the consecutive hits list for MLB. Higgins does not appear there - not sure why,but they are pretty thorough, so I'll trust it for now. Diaz holds the NL record of 10, along with 3 other players - Bip Roberts (1992), Ed Konetchy (1919) and Jake Gettman (1897). Their inclusion of Gettman here indicates to me that Higgins couldn't have been left off because he wasn't "modern era."

Ted Williams holds the record for consecutive times reaching base at 16.

Pauliegunz perhaps you could read the question over again ? The question asks "What is the MLB record for consecutive hits by a player ,not the MLB for consecutive game hitting streak ....
    Cheers
