The only problem I would have with the warmed milk is that dairy product cause an increased production of PHLEGM! You don't need more gunk in the back of your throat, you need less pain and hoarseness!

I'd probably go with following Dideedidi's suggestion but SWAP OUT the Milk and drink hot tea.

If you want to go with an herbal tea check out Mallow (not to be confused with marshmallow) It comes as a dried herb and a fluid extract. You can easily make an infusion (tea) from the dried herbs and add your honey. It is used for Cough, hoarseness, laryngitis, mouth and throat irritations as well as other things not related to your current need.

Lungwort is another useful herb. Using 1 to 2 teaspoons of the dried herb in boiling water and drink three times daily. For Bronchitis, Cough, Flu, Hoarseness. DO NOT USE THIS HERB if you have a history of digestive tract bleeding, low platelet count or allergies.

Never use ANY HERB without first checking with your medical Dr. AND/or a trained Herbalist if you are PREGNANT OR BREAST FEEDING.

Of course if you are over 21 you can get the brandy of your choice (I like Blackberry for this use) boil some water, in a Large Mug...add 2 shots of brandy, 1/2 or more of a fresh lemon juiced, 2 good full spoons of honey, and then fill the mug the rest of the way with the boiling water...sip as you can according to the heat of it after giving it a good stir up.

I've used all of these...stick to the tea (herbal or basic black leaves/Lipton) the day of the show, from one singer to another! Break a leg!

Hi there, I used to do lots of singing and this always worked for me. I used to drink hot milk with honey for the full day before along with some throat sprays (Viks - Not sure if you get it in the states if thats where you are from). I also did not speak or sing until the last minute when I done some warm ups - perhaps one hour before the performance, seemed to get me through at least an hours performance. Maybe give it a go?

It depends which voice you sing with.

    Personally, I use my diaphragm(sp?).

If you use your throat or chest voice to sing, it'll be worse for your voice/throat.
If you use your diaphragm, your voice should be fine seeing as the sounds comes out differently. Using the right parts can really make the difference.

I've seen some completely lose their voice, hop on stage, and blow the audience away. You just need to know what to use when.

Also, for the throat, drink lots of room temperature water, lemon tea, and ginger or ginger tea. Ginger apparently heals throat wounds very quickly.

My voice is pretty hoarse even when I'm not sick.

But hot tea, or warm milk both work well to sooth the soreness.
