  • In the US, no. Every area is different but there will always be an alternative to it like a "secular oath" or "affirmation." You should ask ahead of time so they are prepared. And keep in mind you'll probably be prejudged since atheists are still considered an untrustworthy group!
  • No, atheists can "affirm" to tell the truth and nothing more. I am a Seventh-Day Adventist, and I don't swear. It is a sin to swear. James 5:12 "But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by Heaven, neither by the Earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation."

      A side note: swearing is based on man-made traditions. Meaning, any believer who swears does not care what the Bible says.
