  • Supply and demand. Effectively they auction their talents to the highest bidder, and there is so much money in the game now (Sky TV etc.) that there will always be some club somewhere willing to pay huge amounts for their services in their pursuit of instant success.

  • The best economic system in the world: Capitalism...wonderful capitalism, where anyone has the opportunity to earn what he/she can earn based on what he/she can offer and the traffic will pay/bear for it. I have no problem with footballers' success...or anyone elses...I don't covet it...and say, GOOD FOR THEM! [Now, when it comes to crooked, corrupt, blood-suckin' politicians, who confiscate our hard-earned money, however...that's a whole 'nother opinion!]
  • As I understand it the goal of the professional athelete is to win the game at all costs. This requires an enormous amount of physical stress that can eventually result in permanent damage. In other words it's not like a regular job you start when you're 25 and your value to the company increases then you retire at 65. In six to 10 years the carrier is over and you're replaced with a younger and healthier piece of meat with good knees. Your value to the organization goes down. Take ALL that you can get. Take ALL that you can get NOW.

  • Highest bidder kind of thing. Its a shame that teachers who mold america's young brains make 50-60K a year while sorts figures make some ridiculous amount of money. And then they still want more?? Its sad really...
