  • The only case where I think that it would be important is if you have had children in your marriage. Those are still their grandchildren. And the children of your ex too, by the way. Apart from this, if you have developed a friendship relationship with your in-laws during your marriage, it could be sometimes a problem to keep or intensify this relationship after your divorce, because wounds have first to heal. Of course, even if you hate your ex, this does not mean that you have to hate them too.
  • Like any other friendship, because you like them...and they like you. Happens all the time! And, of course,as iwnit already mention, where there are children/grandchildren involved.
