    Go here for a biomechanical analysis of Usain Bolt's WR run in August, 2009 (9.58, 100 meter). It is a very good explanation.

    If you take the highest non-extremity speed, which I interpolated to be 13.3xx meters per second, round up 13.4 meters/sec., and that comes out to 29.974 MPH. Of course, his actual realized momentary speed was about 27.5 MPH. (The human gait is a choppy one .. it makes precise speed measurement a chore!)
