oops
It may not be decay but just pleasing the masses. The public obsession with horror is the way certain people enjoy feeling alive. Perhaps these people are just re-assuring themselves of what they’re Not, not hurtful people. You're exaggerating this "glorification" bit.
All cultures are mostly unique...You have to try to help people and the social consciousness by not taking the negative slant. Attitudes are everything and it's contagious. If you think it's inevitable decay, it is. If you think it's harmless escapism, it is. It's subjective and can't be labeled nor should it. Who's the grand God who defines "moral" anyway? You?
Man does not have an automatic form of survival, you're absolutely right. He relies on caring individuals to nurture him so that he too may nurture. Without others he cannot survive on his own. It perpetuates our species. Nature DOES provide us a bountiful existence. It's the selfish egoists who care only for their own frivolous existence who destroy it for their own benefit thinking they must do it to survive. Extremists on any level are a huge concern. Your constant need to label this and that rewards your selfish ego of some warped identification that amounts to a crazy logic for defending greed. You may consider not defining everything so precisely to mask, defend and re-enforce what you know in your heart can't remotely be right. Moderation and acceptance should be the biggest concepts you should be concerned about.
Without the moment, as it occurs, there can only be the probable that reality was or is going to be.
So your concern for social decay is self-motivated. It certainly sounds like your creator; the egoist, is the persona of evil itself. A true egoist accepts only the nature of thy self not the nature of the universe and reality, how can you remotely try to dish that concept out? How can you defend this absurd logic to veil evil? Sophistry is exactly what you’re doing when you try to label reality in this maniacal way. This entire dialogue was for you to find and defend yourself as a selfish egoist. It can't be defended. Good and selflessness is the only point to all of our realities.
To use consciousness to acknowledge now may very well be reality.
According to you there is one reality encompassing that which exists and can be defined with a definite equation or formula. I believe that reality only exists between the shortest span of time, the gap that is now. You’re thinking and state of full focused awareness sounds to me to be unnatural and filled with labeling and identifying objects, conditions and circumstances. One should not have to focus on consciousness but only to acknowledge the importance of every instance of time as it occurs. Trying to describe or conceptualize that which appears around us, and label it as the truth and or reality, is missing the point. Your ego must have things in order and nicely packaged so you believe you truly understand the universe. Your ego feeds on believing it's right and all else are wrong. Your ego will defend itself at all costs instead of accepting the truth of each individual moment.
I don't have the right to believe for myself that I should have an open mind by not labeling something, or anything for that matter as absolute? Your reality filled with absolutes is now a standard that I should live by or be labeled as a psychotic!?!
So, for you I guess the universe is a constant, never changing always remaining the same. And that doesn't sound psychotic? You are too sane. I identify the universe around me as ever changing, growing and moving, you disagree!?! Reality is a concept that very often is misinterpreted. How we perceive reality defines it subjectively. Your misinterpretation of reality seems repressed. Good luck with your anal-repression. Maybe you should go watch "The Birds" again that's just as frightening and believable as your stagnant universe.

You're reading I think Art is the Barometer of any society. With the entertainment industry seemingly obsessed with films glorifying human mutilation and dehumanization. Does this indicate a moral storm brewing or do all cultures march toward inevitable decay?
