  • There are not an over the counter meds to treat any form of Herpes, except Simplex. Valtrex, or Accyclovir will keep it in control.
  • Peanuts speed up the outbreaks. I just stopped eating peanuts and anything that had peanuts in them and the outbreaks were virtually disappearing, maybe once a year or so.
  • Perhaps you should see a doctor to prescribe you something. They have a lot of good prescription drugs available to help this problem. I don't have it so I don't know what it's like as far as embarassment goes, but there are clinics you can go to like once, get a script and never go back.
  • Have you already been diagnosed with Herpes, or are you just assuming that you have it? Although it's unlikely, it's still possible that you don't have it, even though your (ex)husband has it. So first off, you need to see a doctor to be sure. Yes, prescriptions are very expensive, but maybe there's a generic one, and possibly it's on the list of those WalMart now sells for just 4$ under their special program. Since it's a major cause of causing outbreaks, you must limit the amount of stress in your life. Take charge of your diet, by limiting sweets or sugars, and cut out peanuts too. If you're a smoker, you need to stop. It affects your immune system, and it's bad for your health in all other ways too. Be as healthy as you can be in order to lower your risk of having outbreaks. Take a multi-vitamin each day to be sure you're getting all the vitamins your body needs. Limit alcohol or cut it out entirely, as well as too much caffeine from coffee or sodas. It's all about boosting your body, making it stronger, so that Herpes doesn't take advantage of a weakened system. Lysine might be helpful for you. It also comes in a topical form that you can apply directly for itching relief. Aloe Vera Gel or Tea Tree Oil might help dry up sores. I used Google to search for "herpes herbal" which brought up many sites. Here are just 5 of them for you: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/65/72562.htm http://www.mothernature.com/Library/Bookshelf/Books/41/55.cfm http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/ http://www.herbalremediesinfo.com/herpes.html http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsConditions/HerpesSimplexViruscc.html I hope this helps you get starting in taking charge of your life! Please take care of yourself.
  • Lysine is an amino acid that is supposed to retard the growth of herpes. If you get outbreaks often, taking lysine pills daily might stop them all together or reduce the frequency of outbreaks. Even if it's one of those things you get maybe once a year, lysine might also be effective if you take it when you feel that tingle.
  • I'm not sure about over the counter drugs, but I have heard of a herbal remedy. I don't think that it can stop outbreaks, but I believe it works similarly to the drugs they prescribe to treat the outbreak. It's called Acidophilus Bifidus, it's natural and usually used to treat digestive problems. You have to take lots, though, I think 5 twice a day for herpes. It's all natural though, so you don't have to worry about OD'ing and it's better for your system than some of those really hard prescription drugs. Oh, and I've seen it in refrigerated sections of those health food stores.

  • There are some that say it's best to avoid things like chocolate though certain types of food like chocolate are not a trigger for everyone as everyone's situation is personal to them and may not apply to you. Personally I could never give up chocolate. You may want to post this question on the H-YPE forum. There are loads of members ready to answer all kinds of questions about herpes.
