Question

Help answer this question below.

Why is it, when we boys/men need to pee, we always seek out a tree or a wall or something else upright, so we can aim at a point well above the ground (consequently getting a greater chance to splatter our own feet and ankles)?

Standing to piss is a culturally determined practice. In many parts of the world men squat down and piss like women. I suggest that the choice is partly determined by the kind of garments that people wear. Trousers with flies, or with drop-down flaps, make it easy to piss standing; robes do not.

I can't imagine how a Roman senator in his toga managed matters to avoid splashing his garment or his sandals, or for that matter how the pope does. I doubt, though, that either of would stand to piss.
