  • I think you are supposed to wear a special rubber cap or tape to prevent this. Bleach is a strong chemical, call a hairdresser for advice, otherwise you may damage your scalp and lose your hair.
  • It may be related to the pH of whatever you're using to bleach your hair and your skin's natural pH. Alkaline (base) liquids will make your skin and/or scalp feel dry and itchy. The more alkaline the bleaching solution, the worse your scalp will feel. I spilled hydrogen peroxide on a grayish color linoleum floor one day and ignored it. By the time the floor was dry, it was about three shades lighter than it was pre-spillage. Granted, I'm not a chemist, but this seems like it could be one reasonable explanation.
  • Most bleaching agents contain hydrogen peroxide and alkaline agent. Decomposition of hydrogen peroxide liberates oxygen and heat. It also causes stinging sensation when in contact with skin. However good news is that after washing with plenty of water stinging sensation should go away.
