i would put a membrane under the flooring, overlap your seams.and paper tape the seams, so you don't trip on the edges.
i like what is called kraft paper,
36 '' wide paper that has a thin layer of tar in the paper.
you don't glue the paper. its a floating floor that can expand and contract,
There are a lot of types of flooring,
some of it snaps into precut groves, some of it you hammer the tongue and groove together for a tight fit. you use a bit of the flooring so you don't damage the tongue. Wherever you buy your flooring they will prep you on the install.
i like the kind with the precision grooves that fit together real tight,they just interlock. but see what you like, there certainly is a lot of it out there.
