I have to write a literary analysis of a short story I just read for my American Lit Class. So what I want to know is "How do you put your thinking cap on"? or is it a hat? Why did I even ask this question?

I'm supposed to be preparing a report for a meeting tomorrow and instead I'm ABing, playing Spider Solitaire, and watching stupid crap on YouTube......

To put your thinking cap on...write an outline of what you want to say in your short story. That will make the writing part go much faster.

2. read your assignment

Follow your instincts.

Make your own critical analysis.
Write what you feel is right.
You will end up writing a fine analysis.
As for 'thinking caps' we are wearing them all the time.

- I just felt like the writer wanted me to think crazy to forget about my crazy:) That's how I felt after I read the story:) But I am trying to overanalize it..or maybe I need to analyze more:)..I don't know..this is why I hate to write!

- Start writing, Tjoe, you will find the words flowing. You will find your mind clearing and getting focussed. That you had the idea to write a critical analysis of what you read itself proves you are in the right direction. You can do an edit of what you write after completing the writeup.

You asked the question because you'd rather horse around on AB than do the assignment. Turn off the TV, radio, etc. and write it in longhand so you won't horse around with the computer. Then type it for editing and presentation.
