  • My english teacher practically gets in front of the class and burns a bra every day. Any social group who is extreme to the crazy level is frowned upon, I think
  • Some people take the feminist term to the extreme. It's almost reverse sexism to some. To them males have become inferior. I think it's the extremists that give feminism a bad name. Of course, that's not REALLY what feminism is, but you can't stop the extremists.
  • I believe that feminists (like masculinists) are to the extreme. In feminism, Men become inferior (like in masculism, women become inferior. I am an equalist, fighting for women's rights. ~ And always remember... Hannibal Lecter is searching for you
  • As a description of clothing or non-violent behavior, it is still acceptable. As a demeaning word to put women down, it is not.
  • Because feminists hate men, with the possible exception of the ones that claim to be feminists.
  • Because most feminists tend to take it to the extremes, and those are the ones who get noticed, giving the milder ones a bad name.
  • I consider myself in support of feminism..I didn't know it was a bad word.
  • Because those who are now "in charge" of the feminist movement have turned it into something that most of us no longer wish to be associated with. I was once proud to be a "feminist" too. The current NOW, however, doesn't represent me or my best interests.
  • Because a great deal of nonsense is spoken about feminism. OK a handful (and it is a handful) may go too far the other way but in the majority feminism is a good thing. And, despite the name, this is coming from a man.
  • It's because of these "we want all our rights", women running around trying to make men inferior in their heads to make themselves feel better.
  • I strongly support feminism. Men and Women should have equal rights.
  • I am a male as well and don't consider it a bad word at all. I think the problem, to be honest, lies in the type of feminist. I mean no offense to the ladies, but I someone on answerbag posted a question about women playing the victim role in society. Obviously not all women do that, but I think the argument of feminists is women and men are equal and women should be treated as such (which I agree with) However with that comes responsibility. That means whether it is the issue of child custody, equal pay, domestic violence, masculine/feminine jobs, sex roles, qualifications, etc. gender cannot always be an excuse. Discrimination occurs to both genders. It is a tough situation that you can see with the issue of race as well. I believe that men and women, all races are indeed created equal, but with equality comes responsibility.
  • its because a lot of feminists give off a 'women are superior' attitude even though they're supposed to represent all over equality.
  • If feminists truly fought for equality it wouldn't be considered a bad word. They've done it to themselves.
  • I think feminism itself has evolved. When people get their backs up about the term, they are probably referring to the bra-burning days of "nazi feminism." Every movement has to begin with a kind of war and requires a little extremism to get going. I think that is in the past. Now feminism is pretty much about equal respect and equal pay for equal work.
  • I think that these days, the need for a feminist movement has largely been forgotten. Those women who needed to aggressively fight for equal rights did a great job, and we must never forget it. But nowadays, it is easy to become complacent about the struggle they have gone through. Women today feel empowered. There are a great many more women taking leadership roles, and doing so in a natural way - in schools, gender issues are only now being explored because girls are outperforming boys in a great many disciplines (interestingly, it is only since the girls began to outperform boys that gender has become an important education issue!), women are naturally taking their places in universities, and at high level professions. So we are living in a world where it is largely equally possible for a woman as for a man to be in charge of a multi-national corporation, or, as in the case of Margaret Thatcher, and the current and past presidents of Ireland (Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson) to be leader of a country. So, these women who see themselves as empowered neither need nor want to be associated with the struggling bra-burning extremists who paved the way for their success. I think we need to soften the term feminist, and develop a policy of parity - we are no longer struggling for the superiority of one gender over another, but for parity between the two. We do not need equality, but we need to recognise that both men and women have specific and innate skills and talents which need to be equally appreciated and accepted in the work place and at home. I would gladly stand for parity rather than equality, and would consider myself as intent on parity for women as I am for men!
  • Its the same old story i few nut bars give the rest of the group a bad name (ie the small majority of femmist who think all men are pedafiles and rapist and the world would be a better place without men etc)
  • I'm a female and an ex-feminist. The feminist movement was hijacked years ago by the most radical members. It no longer represents the majority of women. This became more than apparent to me during the Bill Clinton rape accusations and Paula Jones fiasco when "feminists" were more concerned about supporting a powerful political figure that espoused their political agenda than to support women who claimed to be victimized by him. They took it even one step further and blamed and belittled the victims --- simply because of their looks, education and social status. That was it for me. These are the very women they should have been supporting.
  • Because men are easily threatened.
  • Women are like tea bags, you never know how strong they are until they are in HOT water. Don't imagine you can change a man - unless he is in diapers. What do you if your boyfriend walks out? You shut the door. If they can send a man to the moon - why can't they send them all? Never let your man's mind wander - it's too little to be out alone. Go for younger men. You might as well - they never mature anyway. Definition of a bachelor; a man who has missed the opportunity to make some woman miserable. Women don't make fools of men - most of them are the do-it-yourself types. Love is blind, but marriage is a real eye-opener. If you want a committed man, look in the mental hospital The children of Israel wandered around the desert for 40 years. Even in biblical times, men wouldn;t ask for directions. Sadly, all men are created equal
  • Because feminism is notorious for its misandry and hypocrisy.
  • Because someone who calls themselves a "feminist" is likely to think that all men are slime.
  • Feminists got their reputation the old fashioned way: "They earned it."
  • I don't know what people on here are talking about when they say feminists want men to be inferior. They clearly haven't looked up the definition of feminism in the dictionary, it means plain and simple that women want equal rights to men, not more or less. I am proud of you for being a male feminist, you are certainly not alone. My father was a feminist, and I am really proud of that. Anyone who believes people should have equal rights, man or woman, black or white, gay or straight gets an A+ in my book. As far as people considering the word feminism bad, part of that comes from male-perpetuated rumors that feminists were either lesbians or man-haters. This was devised to get women to dissociate themselves from the movement. To some degree, it worked. I know a lot of young women who claim they aren't feminists, which is hilarious because they obviously don't know what it means or they wouldn't be driving cars and wearing business suits. If it wasn't for feminists, women in our society still wouldn't have the right to vote or to do the increasing number of things we are allowed to do in modern society. It's ignorant and unappreciative for women to say they don't believe in feminism but yet to reap the benefits that feminists gave them. I'm sure if you tried to strip them of those rights, you'd find out pretty quickly what they really believe. Women and men are both strong species with many wonderful assets and qualities, and the world wouldn't survive without either. I appreciate them both.
