you should try to get to the root of why you are dependent on running. basically analyze your emotions - how do you feel when you run? how do you feel when you don't run? why would you feel that way? it may really help to talk to a therapist - just talk - since there may be an underlying issue that's prompting this behavior. in the meantime, you don't have to stop running, just cut back. if you run several miles (which i suspect is the case), try cutting the running back by half. also, take it a bit slower. don't run on hard surfaces, and you may save your joints a bit of pain. when you feel comfortable running less, cut back some more. if you feel up to it, trying powerwalking every night instead.
