Some people just don't get it until it happens to them. So chances are, when they suffered a loss it made them think about what you went through and they felt ashamed for not being there for you..because now they understand how painful it is.

i'd try to patch things up. a friend is a rare and precious gift and this person must care about you to reach out to you now. live and learn, but i would be cautious about trusting this person in a time of need until they prove themselves.

Well, I would be the bigger man and accept the apology. It sounds like your friend didn't understand what you were going through, but now he does. And you should understand what he is going through, and can help them through this rough time. Imagine what you felt like when this happened to you (and I'm sorry that it did)- you probably wanted and needed all the friends you could. Now is the time to be the friend that your friend couldn't be.

Your friend just did a little growing up. You have to decide if you miss their friendship enough to accept the apology now or are you better off without them being in your life. You are in control now so do what is best for you. Good luck
