Is there a classic definition of a "good" or "bad" wine? Characteristics?

    Taste is a very subjective area, what is good to one, is not good to another.
    I understand that many people find wines with a lot of tannins in them to be quite bitter and not as palatable (reds), but red-wine drinkers can be partial to that flavour.
    The only thing I would really avoid is a wine that has oxidised or suffered cork-taint.
